MacCommunity List and BBS Rules

Main

If you need clarification on any of these points ask the List or BBS Administrator. We are willing to be quite flexible, but there are some things that we must enforce.

General Rules

  • Members will not abuse each other.

  • Selling is permitted on the list, but posting details of the transaction is not. Selling is restricted to noncommercial sales of Macintosh related items by the membership, to the membership.

  • Spammers and those abusing this list will IMMEDIATELY have their membership deleted. Reinstatement will occur at the Administrator's discretion only.

  • Smilies or other graphics are permitted as long as they do not overwhelm the message, drift off-topic or are obscene or crude in nature. If in doubt, contact the list or BBS Administrators.

  • If you feel that your comments may be taken negatively by other readers, do not post the message. MacCommunity is a computer user's forum. I can see no reason or justification WHATSOEVER for someone to feel compelled to correct, discipline, or insult another member.

List Specific Rules

  • Try to avoid posting "Thank You" only messages to the list.

  • Trim the quoted message text to keep it as short as possible.

  • Occasional off-topic postings are permitted but may be restricted by the Administrator if seen as completely irrelevant to the membership. Mark off-topic messages with [OT] at the beginning of the subject.

  • Attachments are permitted (images, etc.) but MUST be kept below 250 kilobytes.

  • Do not hijack the thread. Post a new subject. (Hijacking is changing the topic of the original posting)

  • Do not change the subject of the original posting when responding to it. Doing this breaks the thread of the email messages (some of us view our email with threading enabled)

BBS Specific Rules

  • Off-topic postings are permitted in the General Chat area only.

  • Don't hijack an existing topic. Make a new topic instead.

  • For information on settings and restrictions, see the FAQ link on the Board index page, or the "MacCommunity Board" forum.
